19 Hamri Didis commence trading

19 Unilever Nepal Limited Hamri Didis (HD) are now trading in two of RAP3 CONNECT’s core Districts, Dailekh and Doti.  Last year Unilever Nepal Limited, Prabhu Bank and CONNECT entered a partnership to appoint, train and finance 100 HD in the Mid and Far West of Nepal.  Start up processes are ongoing for the remaining HDs. CONNECT are delighted that as of 30 January 2017, 19 of the HDs have purchased stock, investing over 60,000NPR between them, and have commenced trading.

Saving & credit training for RBGs

Two days refresher training on savings and credit was conducted from 06 January 2017 to 17 January 2017 at SSDR and JRDR road corridors. The training was conducted in 5 events e.g. 4 in SSDR and one is in JRDR consisting of 25-30 members in each event. Normally, savings and credit activity is operated by the group secretary and treasurer. Hence, the training was provided to Secretary and Treasurer of each groups. Altogether, 138 members participated in the training and 40 women and 47 Dalit members were trained. The training was facilitated by SDO and SMs. Theoretical and practical knowledge was provided to trainees. However, the practical sessions were focused more on systematic and transparent record keeping in prescribed ledgers. 

Physical progress monitoring, Kalikot:

With the SSDR road nearing completion within the next few month, a physical works review and monitoring visit was conducted between 5th to 7th Jan 2016 by the DDC Planning Monitoring and Administrative officer Mrs. Prabitra Shahi. Her visit extended to the whole of the road corridor where she inspected the ongoing, completed works and recorded its progress thoroughly.  The monitoring team was facilitated by EO Ramesh Khatakho, SEDO Sunil Babu Shrestha and RE Sunil Tandukar with briefings on technical and social aspects. She said she was impressed by all the activities of RAP and the support provided on increasing the living standard of beneficiaries of the project. Also, she appreciated RAP3 performance in the district as a model project. 

Handover – Takeover (HoTo) of RMG works in Morang

Apart from regular duty of Improvement Projects of Khorsane-Kerabari (D5DR008) & Pathari-Sanischare Roads (05DR022), duties for proper implementation of RMG works were added to IoW Prem Bal Tamang and IoW Rameshwor KC. The duties are handed over by SAMEs Nabin Jang Thapa and Ram Ratan Yadav.

On 16th and 19th January 2017, for completion of Handover-Takeover process of RMG sites a team of GE, IoWs and SAMEs visited the following DRCNs:

a)    Motipur-Tetariya Road (05DR010)

b)    Pathari-Jante Road (05DR021)

c)    Pathari-Sanishchare Road (05DR022)

d)    Milanchowk-Lakhantari Road (05DR004)

e)    Mirgauliya-Gothgaun Road (05DR002)

f)     Nimuwa-Hattimuda-Koyalpur Road (05DR003)

g)    Kaseni-Banigama-Dangraha Road (05DR009)

CONNECT facilitates KUSOM RES placements

10 MBA students from Kathmandu School of Management will travel to the Mid & Far West of Nepal this week to complete their 3 week Rural Enterprise Services placement, facilitated by RAP3 CONNECT. CONNECT identified 10 businesses that might benefit from the students' input, assessed business needs and aspirations and then paired each business with a student based on their skills.  The CONNECT team joined class on Friday to discuss the businesses the students will be supporting. Great to see such enthusiasm.

DDC/DTO field monitoring visit

DTA Jhapa organised a one day field monitoring visit of contractor works (Dudhe – Shivagunj 9.28 km improvement project) for DDC/DTO key personnel on 20th Jan 017.  The chief of the District Technical Office Er. Sushil Shrestha, Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Officer of DDC Mr. Dipak Dahal and DDC Accounts Officer Mr. Bikash Niroula together with representatives of the DTA team, SC team and contractor’s team visited the site. Meanwhile, IoWs briefed the monitoring teams about the progress of the works to date. Concerning the problem of a scarcity of filling material faced by the contractor, DTO has agreed to facilitate to expedite the progress. The team also visited a quarry site nearby.

Annual Review of 2106

The 2016 Annual Review took place in Kathmandu 12-13th January 2017 at the Local Development Training Academy (LDTA), Jawalakhel, Lalitpur. Attending the Opening Ceremony as the Chief Guest was the Secretary of Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MOFALD) Mr Kedar Bahadur Adhikari. The Session was chaired by the Director General of DOLIDAR, Mr Ram Krishna Sapkota, with additional speeches by the representative of DFID Dr Suman Baidya and RAP3 Coordinator Mr Mohan Raj Chapagain. Representing the 14 RAP3 districts were teams consisting of Local Development Officers, District Technical Officers and RAP District Team Leaders, together with representatives of DOLIDAR and RAP3 staff based in Kathmandu. Presentations were made by the former Roads Board of Nepal Chairman Mr Purna Kadariya and RAP3’s Project Manager Michael Green and Engineering Team Leader Bill Seal. The purpose of the Annual Review is to get district feedback on the programme performance in the last year and district inputs to the planning of the next Implementation Year.

Annual Away Day

Following the two day Annual Review on 12-13th January members of RAP3 district management held an Away Day the following Monday, 15th January to coordinate activities ahead of the next Implementation Year which has been shifted to synchronise with the GON Financial Year. Issues discussed were staff appraisals now being linked to performance as measured by Programme Monitoring and Verification (PMV) team, the start of funding by GON of the Road Maintenance Group (RMG) programme, the Graduate programme, Audit, district Continual Improvement Action Plans and financial management procedures. For the first time the new CONNECT team was introduced to the members of the districts and central teams and given a presentation on future plans by the CONNECT Team Leader Subashini Chandran.

Approval of ARAMP of FY 073/74

DDC Dadeldhura organized a DTICC meeting at DDC hall for the purpose of getting consensus in approving ARAMP for this fiscal year. The programme was chaired by LDO Gyanendra Parajuli and special support was received from the Chief District Engineer (CDE) Er. Ram Kumar Shrestha. The political representatives from various parties were briefed regarding the prepared document and was unanimously agreed upon by all participating representatives. The ARAMP for this year has been signed and officially prepared by DDC Dadeldhura with TA from RAP3 DTA. The document was officially approved on 8th January 2017.

Test Drive on SSDR

RAP3 DTA Kalikot successfully plied two motorbikes to the end of Sannighat-Syuna-Shipkhana District Road (17.65 Km) on 30th Decemeber 2016. The main objectives of test drive were to encourage RBGs/SBGs members to speed up construction works, to give good impression of RAP works among all district stakeholders and to give clear idea on road progress in the district. All RBGs/SBGs, local political parties, beneficiaries and  VDC level stakeholders had welcomed RAP DTA team.
