Sub-surface Drainage System in DAD

A Sub-Surface Drainage System is being constructed at CH. 03+700 of Sakayal-Kaipalmandu (73DR005) road and implemented under TM Piloting with proper guidence and close supervision of DTA staff. This drain system is to be built behind and below a gabion wall whose designed height is well above 5m. Sub‐soil drainage system facilitates the proper flow of water behind and below the wall which plays an important role to increase the stability of retaining wall and prevent structural failure. (See photo) The Sub-Surface Drainage construction is first of its kind for the workers of the implimenting contractor, they did the job with interest and shown the willingness to do with more confidently in future. 

                                                                                                                   

Successful completion of 4-wheeler test drive

RAP3 DTA, Bajura, successfully completed a four-wheeler test drive on both newly constructed roads. RAP3 is constructing Maure-Kailasjmandu-Badimalika Road (67DR003) of 11.3km and Maure-Toli-Chhattara Road (67DR011) of 16.6 km. The test drive of MKB road was carried on 20th January, 2018 while the test drive on MTC road was carried on 21st January 2018. The Mayor of Tribeni Municipality, Chairmen of LRUC and LRCC, newly elected chairpersons of different wards, DTO and the team from TMO along with district team travelled the entire alignment of both roads by jeep. RBGs and local people were very happy to see the vehicles for the first time in their locality. The speakers thanked RAP3 for providing the access to their locality during a small unofficial program conducted at the end of both road corridors.  Hom Nath Lamsal, DC and Ramesh Neupane (DTL) thanked all for the direct or indirect involvement during implementation of the programme.

MHLT Design Contract goes to Green Planet Engineers Pvt. Ltd

The MHLR team has finally hired design consultants for the remaining section of the Mugu- Humla Link road. Initially, it was planned that the in-house members of RAP3 would design the road section but due to time constraints, it was decided to hire design consultants.

Four proposals were received and evaluated by the MHLR team.  Green Planet Engineers Associate Pvt. Ltd came up with the lowest quote and also fulfilled the technical requirements and was thus selected for the detailed design work.

On 19th January 2018, Bishnu Prasad Koju, MD of Green Planet Engineer's Pvt. Ltd signed a contract with RAP3 in the presence of Kirsteen Merrilees, Team Leader, and Bishnu Ram Bista, the acting deputy team leader. The MHLR team has provided the consultants with all the data from the detailed survey like detail TS data along with DTM file, cross-section data (stepping method), Traverse data, and D-card information along with inventory list soft copy. The consultant will submit the draft report by 21st Feb 2018. The MHLR team will provide feedback on the draft and final report will be submitted by 16th March 2018.

Gravelling and widening

Guthichour Rural Municipality, Ward No. 1, Jumla has initiated a program to widen the narrow sections of road 63DR009b using excavator. The work was at full pace during a site visit by SAME on 17th January 2018. Also around 500m of the road section was seen gravelled. The road will be now easily passable to vehicles and have less chances of formation of rills during monsoon seasons. The total length of this road is 8.10 Km and 6 members of RAP3 RMG are mobilized for maintenance.

SMG: Safety training and field demonstration

On 17th January DTA Jumla conducted a safety training and field demonstration for assembling and filling of gabion boxes for SMG group of 63DR008. GE showed and explained the site safety pictures to all members of SMGs.  A safety officer was chosen from the group and he was provided with the safety checklist. Later on the procedure for assembling and filling of gabion box was explained to the groups. DTA team stayed on the site until one of the box was completely filled with rubble stones. SMG members gained much knowledge regarding safety concern and maintaining quality gabion work.

SMGs work started

DTA Dadeldhura started the implementation of specific maintenance work in different DRCNs through SMG piloting. Contract agreements were made with all 5 SMGs and they were provided with the required construction tools and safety gear. Further all groups members were provided with orientation about RAP3 principles, its objectives, insurance policies, safety and first aid arrangements, method of measurement, valuation and payment, environment protection policies, sanitation requirements and priorities for inclusion of poor and deprived family before construction starts in the field. These groups will be mostly doing gabion works, dry wall, stone soling & dry-stone causewas in different locations.

Belpata Dairy Cooperative holds AGM

CONNECT's partner Belpata Dairy Cooperative (BDC) held its 8th Annual General Meeting  on 12th January, 2018. BDC members, Village Municipality Executive Committee members and RAP3 CONNECT representatives attended the AGM at which the financial report for the fiscal year 2073-2074 was presented. During the meeting it was agreed that the Executive Committee election will be held on 18 January, 2018.

CONNECT took the opportunity of the AGM to provide an update on CONNECT's partnership with BDC and the support offered to BDC and farmers in BDC's downstream supply chain.
