Organized cooperative management training

Most of the RBG members working on two DRCN roads in Bajura are affiliated with thirteen existing cooperatives and a new cooperative. Two days of cooperative management training was organized for forty-two functionaries (chairperson, vice-chairperson and secretary) on 31 December 2017 to 1 January 2018 and 9 -10 January 2018 at MK and MTC road corridors. Participants learned about cooperative concepts, importance and value, acts, rules and by laws, operational procedures, registration, renewal and affiliation, SWOT analysis, action plan preparation, implementation, monitoring, coordination and review

Term Maintenance speeds up in Dailekh

After the issue of Work Orders 5 and 6 on 24th of January 2018, significant progress has been observed in the two road corridors of the Term Maintenance Pilot Project. The Intern Engineer and IoW have carried out the successful completion of the trial section. The DTA has made payments for Work Order 1 and Work Order 2 along with the advance payment for work Order 3 and 4. Work Order 3 and 4 comprising specific maintenance works is ongoing at a rapid pace. In Addition to this the DTA has issued Work Order 5 and 6 addressing the road safety works. As of now, the DTA has issued Work Orders of approximately NRs 9.99 million rupees compared with national bid value of NRs 10 million rupees.

Radio Debate and Public Hearing for Development

In collaboration with RAP3, Mugu and Antenna Foundation Nepal (AFN), Mugu FM 107.4 MHz conducted a public hearing programme titled “Radio Debate for Development about Local Government, Development Construction, Planning and Participation” on 26th January, 2018 at Gamgadhi Bazaar. The public hearing was chaired by Gagan Bahadur Budha, chairman of Mugu FM 107.4 MHz and were attended by Chief Guest Gopal Bam, newly elected Parliament Member, special guest Harijung Shahi, Chief/Mayor of Chhayanath Rara Municipality, district level political parties, District Civil Society Network, journalists, local beneficiaries, RAP3 staff and representatives of the local people. The objective of hearing was to support the delivery of development activities at all level in a transparent manner and raise awareness among stakeholders/beneficiaries about development issues. The chief guest and other speakers committed to fulfil the development related raised issues in coming days. At the end of the programme, Radio Mugu FM 107.4 MHz distributed T-Shirts donated by RAP3.

SMG orientation and contract sign

DTA Dailekh has successfully conducted orientation program to Special Maintenance Groups (SMGs) in Dadaparajul, Naumule and Gaganpani on 24th, 25th and 26th January 2018 respectively in the presence of local level government representative and group member of each group. The contract has been signed between DTA Dailekh and SMGs. SMGs also committed about bringing of the gabion boxes from the Headquarters within January and will start the work by the 2nd week of February. Line and level will be provided by DTA soon in every road regarding the SMG’s Work. The total of six SMGs continued to the roads 60DR010, 60DR031 and 60DR033.

Organized account/saving & credit training to RBG formed producer group

Seventy two mobilized RBGs formed 64 producer groups and registered with DADO, DLSO and Tribeni Municipality in Bajura. Two days account/saving and credit training was organized to producer group’s main functionaries (Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer) at five LRUC level from 28 December 2017 to 8 January 2018. One Hundred ninety participants learned about group management, saving mobilization, DADO/DLSO/municipality support, account management, posting on ledger, loan system, interest calculation, profit and loss analysis, public auditing and reporting.  

Radio Debate for Development

On 27th January 2018, Radio Dhurbatara F.M. 89.8 MHz has organized a ‘Radio Debate For Development’ program in Narayan Municipality ward no.4, Bhaisekhor, Dailekh in coordination with Antenna Foundation Nepal and RAP3. Most of the development stakeholders of the district were present in the program.  RTL Rajendra K. Shrestha responded the query from the audience related to RAP3 activities. The public participation was huge from different part of the locality. DTA Dailekh has frequently coordinating with Antenna Foundation for awareness of the people in development of the district through radio program ‘Bikash Ko Bato’.

SMG formation in Doti

DTA Doti conducted formation of SMG 5 for Gopghat-Latamandu DRCN (70DR012, ch 0+000 to ch 12+000) on 26th January,2018. The meeting was chaired by Siddha Bahadur Balayar, Chairperson of Shikhar Municipality and sixty-eight people were present. RAP 3 DTAs (IoW, GE and SLT) gave them information regarding the SMG guidelines and the type of works to be done. Following those instructions SMG was formed successfully within their coordination, which included 20 members.

In their latest episode, Bikash ko Bato discusses the benefits of livestock insurance.  The Government of Nepal has endorsed livestock insurance, offering subsidised policies to encourage uptake among rural farmers.  RAP3 CONNECT is supporting dairy farmers in our partner, Belpata Dairy Co-operative's supply chain to take out insurance policies with Everest Insurance.

Issue: Livestock insurance and it's benefit to farmers

 

In this episode, we will talk about livestock insurance and it's implementation in mid and far western district. Government has endorsed the livestock insurance from the fiscal year 2070-71 to encourage farmer in agricultural sector and secure their investment on it. Covering the issue on Bikashko Bato aims to promote the government program and make more aware to farmer to do livestock insurance. SMGs in Achham

Specific Maintenance Group (SMG) – piloting in its second year - is being implemented in Achham district in three DRCNs (69DR003, 69DR0011, 69DR018). All together 5 SMGs with 78 members (49% females) are working on these roads. Among these SMGs, Devkanya’B’ is being implemented at 69DR003  ( Kirthikham – Lungra – Chaurpati ) on an 8km road section (6+000 to 14+000). This newly formed group has completed over 20% of the estimated works within 20 days of its mobilisation. Remaining groups have also made similar progress in other roads. The picture shows gabion retaining wall constructed by Devkanya ‘B’ group at chainage 8+050.  DTA has planned to make advance payment (80% of completed works valuation) as per contract provision by the middle of next month.
