CONNECT takes the bank to the farm gate

For the first time Prabhu Bank Limited (PBL) have taken the bank to the farm gate and CONNECT is delighted to confirm that PBL has delivered value chain financing loans totaling NPR 2.95 million to 117 ginger farmers.

In an unprecedented move to improve financial inclusion, Prabhu Bank staff travelled from Dhangadhi to remote areas of Doti to open bank accounts and disburse loans to ginger farmers who belong to our business partner, Organic Mountain Flavor’s supply chain.

An export market strategy for Nepali ginger

Christina, a student on Exeter University’s OnePlanet MBA is in Nepal to work with our MSME partner Organic Mountain Flavor Limited on an international market discovery exercise to strengthen business development capabilities and author an export market strategy for ginger and other organic food and spice products from Nepal. Christina comes with 18+ years of experience with the Government of Canada in areas of rural and economic development and export policies.

Yuva Vayus in our ginger supply chain complete level one training

Samir Newar, Managing Director of Organic Mountain Flavor delivered a training session for the 32 Yuva Vayus in his supply chain yesterday (you can read about Yuva Vayus here). The women received training on the principles of organic agriculture, cost of production and price setting, value chain financing and communication.  A first step on their journey to becoming leaders and role models within their communities.

Ginger farmers in Doti open bank accounts

30 ginger farmers of which 23 are female in Barchain VDC, Doti have opened accounts with Prabhu Bank Limited (PBL).  With RAP 3 CONNECT's support representatives of PBL's Dhanghadi branch travelled to BP Nagar, Doti, taking the bank to the farm gate.  This new approach, alongside a simplified account application process is bringing farmers into the formal financial system.
