In this young democracy prone to natural disasters, such as the earthquake of 2015 and the floods of 2017, subsistence agriculture is the main source of livelihood for four out of five people. RAP3 CONNECT is partnering with Unilever Nepal Limited (UNL) to provide income generating opportunites to women in the Mid and Far West of Nepal. To date 393 women have been appointed as Hamri Didis, 286 of them are trading with a combined billed value to date of NPR 5,153,312.

Unilever Nepal Limited will, for the first time, offer monsoon credit of NPR 9,40,000 to 69 high performing Hamri Didis, their direct to door sales agents, operating in the Mid and Far West This credit will enable these women to stock-up and continue trading during the monsoon without being affected by access related disruptions in supply.
Mr Mukunda Ghimire, Assistant Sales Manager of Unilever Nepal Limited is with the CONNECT team in Dadeldhura, Dailekh, Doti and Achham this week to meet with Hamri Didis and monitor their progress. Mr Ghimire is also meeting with distributors to orientate them on the aims and value of the Hamri Didi network.
Earlier this year, Unilever Nepal Limited agreed to scale-up their partnership with CONNECT and work towards appointing 600 Hamri Didis across CONNECT’s core Districts by 2018. As the CONNECT programme reaches the end of it’s first year of implementation the partnership is well on its way to meeting this target. To date, 382 HDs have been appointed, 228 of which are trading.

The partnership between CONNECT, Unilever Nepal Limited and Prabhu Bank Limited has been recognised for its work to promote sustainable livelihoods for women by The Association for Consulting and Engineering Awards 2017. IMC Worldwide, the UK firm implementing RAP3 and convenor of the partnership accepted the accolade at the Awards ceremony held in London, last week.
