Choose a route, who is travelling and how many days. The calculator adds the restricted-area permit row and the park or conservation-area ticket for that route and shows the sum. Every fee comes from two government tables, each row is quoted word for word below the result, and every figure is as the source showed it in October 2026.
Permit fees are in US dollars and park tickets in Nepali rupees, as the tables list them. The two are not converted into one total.
How the total is worked out
- Restricted-area permit. The Department of Immigration table gives a fee for the first week (or the first 10 days for Upper Dolpa) and a fee for each day beyond. The calculator charges exactly that: the first-period fee, plus the daily fee for every day past it, for each traveller.
- Park or conservation-area ticket. The Nepal Tourism Board table gives one fee per person per entry for each visitor type. The calculator multiplies it by the travellers who pay and the entries you enter. Where the row reads "Below 10 yrs free", children under 10 are left out.
- Area scope. A permit row covers the wards it lists and nothing else. The table lists wards, not trek names, so the calculator cannot tell which wards your route crosses; the routes above are a starting point to confirm with your agency.
- Visitor type. The permit table has no nationality column. The sourced Department of Immigration text is about foreign tourists, so permit lines are added for the Foreigner choice only. For Nepali and SAARC travellers only park tickets are totalled.
To visit restricted areas, a trekking permit must be obtained from the Department of Immigration in Kalikasthan, Kathmandu. “To visit Restricted Areas in Nepal. a Trekking Permit must be obtained from the Department of Immigration, Kalikasthan, Kathmandu.” Nepal Tourism Board, seen October 2026.
The Department of Immigration page says foreign tourists who want to trek in certain restricted areas must get a trekking permit from the department (translated from the Nepali). “नेपालका निश्चित निषेधित क्षेत्रहरूमा पदयात्रा गर्न चाहने विदेशी पर्यटकहरूले अध्यागमन विभागबाट अनिवार्य रूपमा पदयात्रा अनुमति लिनुपर्ने कानुनी व्यवस्था छ।” Department of Immigration, seen October 2026.

Questions travellers ask
How is the Upper Dolpa permit charged?
The Department of Immigration table lists Upper Dolpa at USD 500 per person for the first 10 days and USD 50 per person per day beyond 10 days. A 14-day trek is USD 500 plus 4 days at USD 50, so USD 700 per person.
How are Humla, Mugu, Darchula, Bajhang and Lower Dolpa charged?
Each row gives a fee per week and a fee per day beyond 1 week. Humla is USD 50 per person per week and USD 10 per day beyond 1 week, so 10 days is USD 50 plus 3 days at USD 10, USD 80 per person. The calculator charges the weekly fee for any trek of 7 days or fewer.
Does the Mugu permit cover Rara Lake?
The table lists Mugu at Mugumakarmarong RM wards 1-9 and names no other area. It does not say whether Rara Lake is inside those wards, so the calculator does not assume it either way: the Mugu permit is a tick box on the Rara / Mugu route. Ask your agency or the Department of Immigration.
Do children under 10 pay the park fee?
The Nepal Tourism Board rows for Rara, Khaptad, Shey-Phoksundo and Api Nampa each show "Below 10 yrs free", so the calculator charges park tickets for travellers aged 10 and over only. The Immigration permit table has no child column, so the permit is charged for every traveller.
Why does the Nepal Tourism Board list Upper Dolpa differently?
The Nepal Tourism Board permit page lists Charka Tangsong RM at a flat USD 50 per person per day, while the Department of Immigration table lists USD 500 for the first 10 days. The calculator uses the Immigration table, which is the issuing department.
